The Batman writer is pushing to work on a Spider-Man 4 movie for Tobey Maguire
While the world keeps a close eye on Tom Holland's return as that loveable wall-crawling menace in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, talk is still swirling about bringing another Peter back that gave a hand and a web in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Ever since Tobey Maguire swung back into action as the original Spider-Man from the Sam Raimi trilogy, fans have been eager to see him crack his back one more time for his own fourth film, with his former co-star and the Mary Jane of that universe, Kirsten Dunst, even expressing her interest in telling a story of an older Spidey, as well. Now another creative force has shown their enthusiasm to give this proposed legacyquel legs with The Batman and The Batman: Part II writer, Mattson Tomlin, offering to get in on the action, as well.Back in July, Tomlin openly stated on X that he'd be interested in bringing a fourth chapter for Maguire's webslinger to life. "Honestly right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobeys Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father," he explained. "Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last 8 films."Honestly right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobeys Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father. Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last 8 films. https://t.co/tXdKKY7tBuJuly 31, 2025Flash forward to now, and a fan checked in with Tomlin to see how that dream project was coming along, and things certainly sounded promising. "Slow and steady wins the race. There wont be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things going right that have nothing to do with me, but I havent gotten a no yet!"Slow and steady wins the race. Be that as it may, throwing Maguire back into the world he saved on three different occasions wouldn't be that much of a wild idea, and one that fans would undoubtedly lap up if given the chance. Factor in rumors that the original webhead might make an appearance in future Marvel movies, and now would be as good a time as any for that particular friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to fight another day. For now, if you need to keep up to date on every other MCU movie and show headed your way, you can just go into our detailed list here.

Details about the scrapped Star Wars show The Acolyte's future that we never got to see have been revealed
After just one season, the dark and deceptive Star Wars prequel series, The Acolyte, was canceled, and with it, one of the coolest characters to ever join the franchise vanished along with it. No matter how much hate the series set 100 years before The Phantom Menace got, one thing that many could agree on was Manny Jacinto's Jedi-evicerating villain, Qimir, aka The Stranger, who rocked dual lightsabers and stole the show. Now, following the release of a new book, The Art of the Acolyte, details have been revealed (via the SFF Gazette) that showrunner Leslye Headland had plans for Qimir to become the first Knight of Ren.It was in the design of the character, as well as knowing that we were going to introduce Darth Plagueis, who has to end up with Palpatine as his apprentice. Following the Rule of Two - a precept that limited the Sith to just two at any given time, a master and an apprentice - one way to keep it going it is if the Stranger is the first Knight of Ren, part of a Sith-adjacent cult that we know eventually survives."Given Qimir's impressive headgear and how he handled his lightsaber, it did feel fitting that he'd have some connection to the recent trilogy's big bad, played by Adam Driver. In fact, even in the show, fans noticed that Kylo Ren's theme from the films was only lightly applied, sparking theories that there was some kind of connection between the two eras.Unfortunately, as far as we know, that link will never be investigated further, given that the show was cut short after one season. Of course, there's a galaxy of stories to be told in the Star Wars franchise, and who knows? The Stranger could refamiliarize himself in future tales somewhere down the line. For now, though, we've got a host of other Star Wars adventures to get in on, and you can get the full list of what's in store right here.

New Bob Odenkirk action movie from Ben Wheatley gets a release date
After breaking bones and looking good doing it once again in Nobody 2, Bob Odenkirk will be getting his hands dirty once more in another intense action movie that finally has a release date.Directed by Kill List, High Rise, and Meg 2: The Trench director, Ben Wheatley, Odenkirk's new film, Normal, follows a small-town sheriff who steps in as a replacement. Things quickly turn wild when a bank robbery reveals an unprecedented level of corruption has spread through the town, leaving Odenkirk's sheriff unable to trust anyone. The film's frontman gave some info about the movie, which sounds a tad darker than the fun, action-packed franchise he's built with Nobody and Nobody 2. "You've got this small town, which I love, Lake Wobegon. It's the middle of nowhere. There are quirky people. They tolerate each other, they support each other, they feel connected, and they're sort of part of a family, but then there's a dark side to this, too, which is that they have a pact," Odenkirk explained to Collider. "How far are they willing to go to protect that pact? And that lie? Or the contract that they share? In this case, they don't know how to turn away from this contract, and they take on and destroy anyone who uncovers it."If the idea of a hidden criminal underworld sounds cool and familiar, that's because it's coming from the mind of Derek Kolstad, the creator of the John Wick franchise, who made you question any fancy hotel you checked into since 2014. Normal, named after the titular town where all of this chaos kicks off, has found itself a spot on the calendar with April 17, 2026, as announced by Magnolia Pictures. Should it remain there, it'll be going up against the all-new take on The Mummy directed by Lee Cronin and starring Jack Reynor and Moon Knight star, May Calamawy. To keep up to date with all the big films arriving in the rest of 2025 and beyond, check out our detailed list here.

This is not a drill: the ghost of WarioWare returns in the form of this bizarre minigame free-for-all on Steam
One of my favorite trends in indie games over the last few years has been the rise of the Wario-like. 2023 was one of the best years in gaming history with the likes of Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur's Gate 3, Street Fighter 6, and Alan Wake 2, but I'd argue the best game of that year was Pizza Tower which revived the Wario Land formula with an anxious pizza chef taking the place of the hunky treasure hunter. With 2024's AntonBlast also being one of the highlights of this decade. But that duo focused on the Wario Land side of things, and now another has stepped up to the other side of Wario's enterprise.Developer Tallglass, which is developing the puzzle platformer BOOM! Buster announced Buster Jam late last year, stating that it is being made in the meantime to help things stay running at the studio and ensure BOOM! Buster doesn't need to sacrifice any of its vision. Earlier this week the studio released the first demo for the game and I'm already in love.Featuring the same characters from BOOM! Buster, Buster Jam follows Buster and his partner Bridget trying to stop the villain "The Wizard" from turning New York into "Wizardtopia". The game mixes overworld exploration akin to the Mario & Luigi RPGs before you lock in to WarioWare style mini-game gauntlets. It's not enough to just do minigames in a row though, WarioWare has a specific vibe, a level of unhinged that would make Mario blush, and I'm glad to say Buster Jam nails it from the short segment I've played.Minigames include Wario classics like having your character avoid other obstacles, realistic jpegs of dogs completely out of place with the art style and various renditions of the main character that can either make him look adorable or ten times more unhinged. And then things you would never see from Nintendo like "stab the wizard" "shoot the devil" and doodle jump where you play as Bart Simpson's head on a shoe. Even from the tiny slice shown in the demo it's already one of my most anticipated indie releases for 2026.Spooky Express is an adorable puzzle game that has me mapping out tracks in Trainsylvania to help undead passengers, and it's perfect for Halloween

Original Hocus Pocus star is open to return for Hocus Pocus 3: "Id like to know what they land on for how Dani wound up."
In 2022, the Sanderson Sisters returned to Salem in Hocus Pocus 2, with a new band of heroes to interrupt their magical schemes. Now, with a third film on the cards, a hero from the 1993 original movie has expressed some interest in joining in the fun when Winifred (Bette Midler), Mary (Kathy Najimy), and Sarah Sanderson (Sarah Jessica Parker) come back for thirds.Thora Birch, who played Dani Dennison in the original film, told Entertainment Tonight that she'd like to see what happened to her character after that fateful Halloween night involving talking cats and candles with a black flame. Yeah, Id like to know what they land on for how Dani wound up. Im super open to the idea, revealed Birch. They love talking about this stuff, so well see.The second film appeared on Disney+ and, along with Midler, Najimy, and Parker reuniting, was also joined by master of monsters Doug Jones, who reprised his role as Winifred's former, very undead love, William "Billy" Butcherson. Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, and Whitney Peak were the new generation of heroes who got caught up in the magical mayhem, but haven't been confirmed to return for the planned threequel, which got the greenlight in 2023.One promising plot point is that Hocus Pocus 2 ended with a hint of the return of Mother Witch, played in the sequel by Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham. If Birch did make a comeback, it might see her on unsalted ground standing alongside the Sanderson Sisters to take down an even greater threat. Details are slim, but we should keep an eye out for future Halloweens for another spell to be cast. In the meantime, check out the 30 best films to watch on Disney+ now.
